Some of Our Common Treatments

Manual Therapy

Manual physical therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy delivered with the hands as opposed to a device or machine. In manual therapy, practitioners use their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate joints in an attempt to decrease pain caused by muscle spasm, muscle tension, and joint dysfunction.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique to treat myofascial pain and muscle trigger points. A trigger point is a taut band of skeletal muscle located within a larger muscle group. Trigger points are tender to the touch and can refer pain to distant parts of the body. Patients may have regional, persistent pain resulting in a decreased range of motion in the affected muscles. A physical therapist will use a thin acupuncture needle to penetrates the skin, stimulate the trigger points and release muscular tissues. The patient may feel a twitch of the muscle as it relaxes, which is the goal of the treatment. Our physical therapists use dry needling as one component of a comprehensive treatment plan. By releasing or deactivating trigger points through dry needling, they can alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and normalize muscle function, allowing you to return to activity fast.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesio taping is a therapeutic option that your physical therapist may use if you’ve had an injury that has caused problems with your mobility and motor function. It involves placing strips of special tape on your body in specific directions to help improve your mobility and support your joints, muscles, and tendons.

Exercises / Weights

Our physical therapist use stretching, strengthening and core stabilization exercises to help you reach your rehabilitation goals. We use body weight, resistance bands as well as dumb bells and cuff weights to help strengthen your muscles to improve your co-ordination and function, reduce the risk of injury and delay the onset of arthritis. Improved muscle strength also helps to improve posture.
